Help Value SAAs to Sell

Need help setting a price to list gun please. Also any input on best way to sell such as GB, RIA, gunshop, consignment, etc. would be very helpful. Thanks! The link below is to this gun the last time it was in rock island auction. It wasn’t that long ago so maybe value still around the same?

#3 & #4. These are going to be hardest to value I think. I know what I paid for them but I understand that doesn’t mean that’s what they are worth or value. 3rd Gen pair. I am first and only owner. Apparently someone ordered these with pretty much every custom option you can select on custom selection sheet and it took 5-7years to receive. I was/am first to take them out of plastic and only one who has held them outside colt factory. Cylinders unturned etc. They do not search on colt serial number search site yet. Should I get colt letters first? How can I get full selection of what exactly was chosen for these?

I am always curious about the wisdom of tie wraps. Someone, somewhere down the line has to figure out how to cut them off without accidentally damaging the finish with the cutting tool.

The storekeepers model looks a bit off in places. The patent dates and Rampant Colt are half buffed off. The barrel address looks buffed as well. The grip frame is a poor fit to the frame. Even in the shopped RIA pictures you can see some of this.

Not sure sir. Let me post some pictures closer up of those spots to help figure out what’s going on.

I noticed before how the dates and rampant seem to fade (buff). I just thought maybe error when machine pressed? Not sure about address, and grips could be custom made by other? Do all factory grips have the medallion? I have not attempted to take grips off to check under cause don’t want to damage. Thoughts? Should I? Thanks for response.

Rock Island auctions would get the highest price. Not sure if that would offset their higher fees or not. Having owned them less than two years it's unlikely selling them will net any different results. I don't know about these non - usable third generation engraved guns or how much the engraved first gen one is going to do. It will be interesting I guess. Might be hard on you if you lose a lot of cash.

Hahaha, I put those on to keep cylinders from turning. Over time it leaves a line. My wife has combo to the safe also. Last thing I need is for her to open safe around family/friends etc. and someone grab to look at and start turnin the cylinders. It is my understanding that there are those who factor turned cylinders in when purchasing….(if there is a line from cylinder turning)

Geez, short time ownership on some high-end hardware. It must break your heart to cull. What gives?? 😉

I prefer the ones I can shoot.

The modern pair are likely worth $6 to $7K per gun. May be more depending on who and at what level the guns were engraved. Looks, from what I can see, to be a solid "C" level of engraving and I am guessing journeyman not master. But that will also require much better photos (professional photos if you can't do it yourself) and more importantly Archives letters. Just call Archives and get what you don't have for letters, expedited. Well worth the extra $ IMO.

RIA guns? Very likely you'll be lucky to get out of them what you put in. Although you never know who is trolling the forum here at any given moment. Not impossible ;) Only one making money on a quick flip with RIA is RIA.

Unless you are very lucky RIA is the place for the big dollar guns. More exposure with people willing to spend the money. If they were mine (and I have some like them) and I wanted to get the $ back out of them, I would letter all of them and then call RIA. You might have some leverage with RIA reselling past auction guns and having the four. Worth asking about a cut on the commission. They actually do that on occasion.

Nice guns! Good luck!

Shooting? I thought they were all made to shoot ;)

If mine mind you . I would have to look under the hood so to speak by carefully taking the grips off . I don't know for what good that would do but that's just me .
I do see dings and scratches on the grips and possibly wear to the screws . Being carful , I'd dive in . Grips off for the photo shoot may even help .

Take the guns apart?
In this case you have some, very nice and expensive guns. If you have to ask, "should I?". I would recommend you don't.

I'd bet a months pay that the storekeeper is refinished, then engraved. And while definitely done by a talented engraver, it is not top notch engraving.

I am with COKid on this one. It says refinished all over it. Gunbroker would do just as good for it. RIA kills you with fees on both ends.

Agreed. The problem come in when people insist on pulling them as tight as they'll go. And they make it worse by using the heavy duty ties. That isn't necessary to stop the gun being cycled by curious tire kickers. Just leaving a bit of slack in the tie solves the problem.

No offense to anyone intended, but regarding the gun shown in Post #7: Poor lighting and photography make the gun look horrible...possibly worse than it looks in real life.
