#3 & #4. These are going to be hardest to value I think. I know what I paid for them but I understand that doesn’t mean that’s what they are worth or value. 3rd Gen pair. I am first and only owner. Apparently someone ordered these with pretty much every custom option you can select on custom selection sheet and it took 5-7years to receive. I was/am first to take them out of plastic and only one who has held them outside colt factory. Cylinders unturned etc. They do not search on colt serial number search site yet. Should I get colt letters first? How can I get full selection of what exactly was chosen for these?

The storekeepers model looks a bit off in places. The patent dates and Rampant Colt are half buffed off. The barrel address looks buffed as well. The grip frame is a poor fit to the frame. Even in the shopped RIA pictures you can see some of this.
Not sure sir. Let me post some pictures closer up of those spots to help figure out what’s going on.

I noticed before how the dates and rampant seem to fade (buff). I just thought maybe error when machine pressed? Not sure about address, and grips could be custom made by other? Do all factory grips have the medallion? I have not attempted to take grips off to check under cause don’t want to damage. Thoughts? Should I? Thanks for response.

I am always curious about the wisdom of tie wraps. Someone, somewhere down the line has to figure out how to cut them off without accidentally damaging the finish with the cutting tool.
Hahaha, I put those on to keep cylinders from turning. Over time it leaves a line. My wife has combo to the safe also. Last thing I need is for her to open safe around family/friends etc. and someone grab to look at and start turnin the cylinders. It is my understanding that there are those who factor turned cylinders in when purchasing….(if there is a line from cylinder turning)

Alright gents I get it! Haha, the storekeeper model I should have looked at a little closer and I probably paid more than double maybe even triple than what it’s worth (7,500.00) but I also bought 16 other guns at same time. Sorry! Hahaha. So with all this being said….. should I list it for what I bought it for or just take the gun back to shop I bought from, RE sell to them and eat the 30%? After reading all these I’m kinda thinking eating the 30% would be best option or putting on consignment hoping that someone else like me walks through shop and just says….”ok I’ll buy that one also”

The modern pair are likely worth $6 to $7K per gun. May be more depending on who and at what level the guns were engraved. Looks, from what I can see, to be a solid "C" level of engraving and I am guessing journeyman not master. But that will also require much better photos (professional photos if you can't do it yourself) and more importantly Archives letters. Just call Archives and get what you don't have for letters, expedited. Well worth the extra $ IMO.

RIA guns? Very likely you'll be lucky to get out of them what you put in. Although you never know who is trolling the forum here at any given moment. Not impossible ;) Only one making money on a quick flip with RIA is RIA.

Unless you are very lucky RIA is the place for the big dollar guns. More exposure with people willing to spend the money. If they were mine (and I have some like them) and I wanted to get the $ back out of them, I would letter all of them and then call RIA. You might have some leverage with RIA reselling past auction guns and having the four. Worth asking about a cut on the commission. They actually do that on occasion.

Nice guns! Good luck!

Shooting? I thought they were all made to shoot ;)

pictures from the phone aren’t that good. After printing out custom form from colt website and checking the boxes of selections these guns have, and without factoring in the labor cost charge, these are over $14,000.00 each! Can’t really see it from pictures I guess but box says D standard engraved. Getting factory letters for sure. Thanks for your reply sir!

these boxes were in pictures posted above but I guess photo quality was bad? Not sure the issue I can see them fine. Like I said in previous message, these are newer, not exactly sure when because when I put in serial number on colt website nothing comes up.

Couple of thoughts for you before you start counting the $.

No way to tell exactly what you have and what it is worth if the original box labels is the Archive's letter. Serial numbers will tell when the guns were made and the quality of production in that time frame.

I have similar #s showing 2014 and 2015 production.

Do you have the original build sheets?

.
No on original build sheet, that was a question I asked earlier if there was a way anyone knew how to get. I’m meeting with owner of gun store these guns where shipped to from colt tomorrow. Going to ask if there is any other info I could find out, records, Like original build sheet etc….. can y’all think of any other questions to ask?

Thanks. I looked back and saw that and edited my post a few mintes ago.. What I see in the photos is more than the box's listed. You really need the archives letter and a copy of the CCS build sheet. No other way to verify everything. Just order one letter for either serial number ( it won't matter which) as either letter will list both guns shipped as a pair to Dury or the original purchaser or both :) I'd bet Dury ordered the guns for the customer. Off chance they may have the original order form.

Model P1840 Custom Shop guns
blue and case
journeyman D engraved
2 gold lines (cylinder and barrel)
extra cylinders fitted (also one gold line)
One-piece Sambar stag grips (I am guessing order or at least shipped after ivory was no longer available? July 2016)
consecutive serial numbers

Hefty price tag to replace them.

Everyone seems to want to beat up on the Sheriff's Model. I think they are wrong. Yes is shows a little use/handling. Still, it is a Colt engraved gun with nice ivory. Typically $6K+ for that combo today. Engraved C grade Sherrif's with factory ivory?...not all that common.

The CS 4445 # on the box is the Colt Custom Shop order number and original build sheet. Letter this one too and ask about that CS#. You'll want the # for your pair too. Ask Dury's for the SC order # for those guns. View attachment 802375
Wow! Very helpful. Thank you sir! Yeah the extra cylinders are for .45 ACP. Didn’t know that was a option until I purchased these.

Gunnar , The above poster seems to have good leads for your need and in a round about helps more than just you .
I'm not that up on engraver technics but have a question about the storekeeper . In the one photo of top center backstrap , post 7 picture 5 , is the center cut ( start of scroll ? ) uncomfortably deep or does that cut blend in to a shade up pattern to blend in ? Odd try at a curios question I know . You have the better look in your hand .
It blends into it. I think it looks deeper in picture due to shadow and light directly above. I honestly do not feel the engraving when holding it. I have a little bigger hands and these elongated grips are the most comfortable by far.

My take is your revolver (listed just above) is worth a LOT more than the current RIA offering @ $45K to $65K
That is my take also. I have just run into the problem of finding a buyer to spend that much on it!

UPDATE Thank you all for helpful and insightful input. After months of research and seeing what y'all all had to say, I decided to consignment/consignment auction with DURYS Gun Shop out of San Antonio, TX. I had met with owner and text him last week and made final decision last Friday. I consigned a couple more than just these 4 which I will list everything below for y'all to keep an eye out for. Most of the guns they consign are though gun broker. You may or may not see these on their website durysguns.com or gunbroker.com in near future if interested in buying. As of Friday, they already had a few local colt and Winchester collectors scheduled to come look at them. Thanks again for all yalls help.

Hey Gunnar,

A heads up for you. The forum doesn't allow posting "guns for sale" outside the for sale forum. You need 50 posted before being allowed to use that forum.

That said I didn't notice until one of your comments that the Sheriff's model had the factory extended grip. Very rare bird there. You might be a little light on that one.

Good luck!
Good to know and thanks for insight. I didn’t think I was selling guns with my post, I was simply stating what they would be listed at for general information. There is all sorts of rare and different things about this gun!

This thread feels a lot like free advertising for a sale. Will let the mods decide if they agree.
Hahaha, Free advertising? All I was asking was to help put a value/price on my guns so I could list them in appropriate location. I have read multiple threads how this has helped other people in same boat proceed. If anything it’s “free education”
