I have a new Colt Commander (the basic model) and I love it. It is very accurate and only has issue with one of the 4 mags I have used with it (the extended 10 rounder that came with it in box - fails to chamber all rounds). I noticed the trigger is kind of sticky and not real smooth. Also, I get some hammer bite. I know I can change trigger and add an extended tail on hammer guard. My question is what suggestions should I do to make this a more enjoyable shooter without dumping a lot of costs into it. I'm not a competitive shooter but enjoy a day at range once or twice a month. What is least I can do without bastardizing the standard gun. I've never done anything to my guns. I tend to like and prefer and accept "stock" versions of my guns and other stuff. If its guality and good, it's good enough to leave alone. Kinda like if coffee is good why ruin it with sugar and cream. However, I do think a smoother trigger would be nice. Thanks.

The best money spent is to make it where you will enjoy it. You obviously do not enjoy shooting it as is so isn't the real value the return you get? I would make the alterations you desire and you will find it much more enjoyable, not "ruined".

If you decide to change out parts, just keep the originals and you'll have no problems restoring the gun to factory, if needed. I've been fortunate in purchases of semi auto's that required little or no part changes. The only change I made on my XSE LW Commander was to lose the FLGR setup and convert it to USGI style with a slightly lighter recoil spring but that's my personal preference.

mjblazer, welcome to Coltforum!

The sticky trigger may simply be from dirt, grime, built up old lubricants and such in the trigger mechanism. Flush thoroughly with a good gun care product. I prefer Eezox for a gun cleaner - it is a solvent when wet and an lubricant and excellent rust preventative when dry. Run a search for more info on Eezox.

I would simply discard the bad mag.

Don't hold the gun quite as high on the grip, and you can avoid hammer bite.

It I unlikely that you have to customize the gun to get it to your liking and to full functioning.
