Help with SAA

I just picked up a SAA 1st gen. marked S.A.P.D 108 on the butt and has a colt letter saying it was shipped to the San Antonio PD in 1927 in a shipment of 50. I am guessing the blue and case to be about %80 Im wondering how in the world to go about assessing the worth of this firearm. I may be able to post pics Friday. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks c3006

Re: Help with SAA

Hi c3006,

There were not a lot of the SAPD guns that have survived, 29 have been reported. Most were refinished after being traded in by SAPD on their new S&W DA revolvers in the early fifties... Your gun, serial number 351784, SAPD #108 was shipped by Colt on December 27, 1927... A well documentd gun with NON-refinish will bring in the $5-8K range, maybe more, marketed to the correct collector in Texas... I got in the $4500 range for a different refinished SAPD gun a couple years back... Hope that helps...Bob Best
