I have a Colt U.S. army DA 1901 and on the backstrap is stamp 1 B 8 and on the bottom of the wood stock too, Does anyone know what unit it could be, The pistol also has the LEB marking which is for Captain Leroy E. Briggs,

How did the Army stamp unit number? Battalion. COMPANY, Division, OR Division,COMPANY,Battalion,

In the Infantry context, the marking would read 1st Infantry Regiment, Company B, Soldier/Item 8. In the Cavalry context it would be 1st Cavalry Regiment, Troop B, Trooper/Item 8. There is a Manual in my archives that describes precisely how and where equipment was to be marked, but many variations are seen and the Regulations were not always followed exactly.

Here's a 1st Cav holster I've had for awhile . Some of the stamps are tough to make out . Maybe it was issed to several units ?

Yes, it appears that your holster has at least 3 different unit markings on it. A very well traveled piece!
