How do you display a small handgun

1464 Views 12 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  what would you say
I'm looking for a way to display an individual small handgun, such as a derringer, Open Top, New Line, etc. on a bookshelf. I'm not into cases; just something simple. Any ideas that you use?

These are about as simple as you can get.

The gun stands are good, John, but I really like that pre war Govt. Mod. more!

I have an old Sharps pepperbox and display it on the wall in a shadow box that I made up. See the attached.

A shadow box, or deep picture frame is a nice way to display anything - and takes little effort to do so.

Sorry, I should have put a disclaimer in there. The pistol's not mine. I don't do autos
johngross, what is the source for the metal stand?

I came across that one on ebay.

Judge, I got mine at a gun show from a dealer that displayed all his handguns on the table with these but I looked up their source, or at least A source:

Whew! You wonder whether to tell someone the stocks are wrong.
I know you said no boxes but I'll show this one anyway.
Here's a family piece I put into a shadow box and have it setting on a mantle in a spare bedroom.
The box keeps the dust and stray fingers off the gun while allowing maximum visual exposure for those that are curious.

Apologies to you for my mistake. I deleted my remarks.

So what shocks should this gun have? Double diamond black walnut?
I don't have enought expertise with Mod O pistols to discern for sure. It appears to be a Govt. Model.

OK. I took a more careful look. A1 arched mainspring housing, A1 frame with relived finger cuts. Early post war that should be wearing Coltwoods? The left side stampings look earlier than post war. 1941 commercial finish military?

A very large gun shop near me displays all of their handguns laying on their side flat in large display cases. We're talking about hundreds , I think between one to two thousand handguns. Anyway, last year they started using those same metal stands. They expanded the building, added more display cases, and now..went back to flat down..no more stands. I wonder what they did with all those stands. I will inquire within on my next visit.
