That does not look like a DS serial number.

If the S/N is 864XXX (where XXX is three numbers), the DS was built in 1965, according to Proofhouse.com.

We like to see photos.

Could it be a Police Positive Special with a change over barrel? How about some pictures for the experts? (myself not included)

8640I with the last character being a Capital "I" ( Eye )?

Or, 86491, with the last character being a numeral '1' ( One ) ?

If the "s" appears below the Numerals, we can assume it was an Inspector's Mark, and, not part of the Serial Number.

Either way, does not sound like a Detective Special Serial Number to me either.

A five digit Serial Number ( within the Police Positive Special run ) would pre-date the advent of the Detective Special by quite a while.

86401 in a Police Positive Special, would be latter 1913 ( according to 'Proofhouse' ).

Images would definitely help!
