How rare are(2.5\")nickel Pythons(Over Python history)? How many were made?

2.5" nickel Colt Pythons:

1)Over the complete Python history, approximately how many of these were made?

2)Are these "Rare" or are they "Exceedingly" rare? Or, otherwise?

I'm not even sure that Colt can give you an answer to either question.

Colt 38,
Don't know ... but I DO know, every time I see any klnd of Python, I stop and take notice and I've NEVER seen a nickel shorty. 6" blue seems to be the norm and then 4" blue and anything else is at least somewhat of a rarity. On these pages, recently, a shorty stainless was mentioned ... now that's gotta' be rare! Of course, this is southwest Kansas and both the people here already own guns, so there's not a whole lot of traffic in the unusual nor exotic.

I don't see very many nickel snubby Pythons.
I rarely if ever see any at any shows.
Here's mine...

Gents, there's a fine line where guns cease to be guns first and become works of art. That beautiful Python is more art than tool ... like a '56 Crown Victoria is a car! Mr. Gunkwazy, your photography is quite worthy as well! Well done. And thank you. I always enjoy these marvelous pictures.

We just picked up a stainless 2.5" Python, and are curious as to how many were made. I would think some of our Python collectors might have an idea. I know I just about died when I saw it in the pawn shops case. How about it guys, any guesses as to how many have been made, and do others of you forum folks have 2.5's? This one has been fired some, but is 98%+++ Thanks, Robba

If Colt can't tell you how mny were produced, nobody can.
They made the darn things for 10 years in Stainless, so they are out there. It's just that nobody is partin' with 'em. You just don't see them out there. I've only seen a handful of them. The production would be in the thousands, just how high, nobody knows that for sure. Most I've seen are safe queens and still boxed.

Just my 2 pesos.

Thanks Gunkwazy. The great thing about collecting anything, is the element of luck. I think we used up our lifetimes worth in a week finding two 2.5's. We don't intend to sell them anyway. But Colt is a pain in the you know what for not keeping better records. Neither of these revolvers had boxes. Its funny in Florida, for all the guns we have bought, I think we have picked up two or three boxes with them. Best of life to you all, Robba
