Gosh, I hope it's a different guy; our 'swamprat' is Hugh Clark. And he is the best stock/grip man around. So sorry if the same fella.

 

This saddens me greatly. I was worried when Hugh did not show up for the CCA show as he had purchased a member table. Hugh was truly a wonderful gentleman and always willing to do for others. I will miss him as I am sure others will. My condolences to his family.

I never met the man but he was always highly complimented here on the Forum which is a good recommendation from those who knew him. I have seen photos of the Colt stocks he restored and that kind of talent is rare. Best wishes to his family and friends and he will be missed.

Hugh and I once made a trade and he did some grip renovation for me. I never was fortunate enough to have met him, but I will certainly miss him and his contributions to this forum!!

That is terrible news. Hugh was a great guy, a gentleman, and a highly skilled artisan. Lucky for me, Hugh expertly refurbished a couple sets of handgun stocks for me.

Swamprat also owned an impressive collection of Colts, including many sporting carved ivory stocks. He frequently shared photos of his fine revolvers with us.

 

What horrible news this is. It's just beyond words. Condolences to his family who he has posted pictures of here a few times. I'm proud to have one pair of grips Hugh refurbished for me and will forever think of him every time I look at or pick up that gun. RIP, Hugh.

 

Rest in peace, Hugh. He was a true asset to the Colt and Luger collecting communities. He restored several sets of grips for me over the years and his work will truly live on in the memories of all those with whom he dealt.

I'm at a loss for words. I knew he wasn't doing well but I was still getting jokes and news bites coming from him. Very sad indeed.

I sure hope his wife doesn't sell his guns for what he told her they cost.
