Can someone identify the frame stamping on this 1917 please? Also, what style of hammer is this? My other 1917 hammer is nothing like this one. TIA

The hammer is someone's attempt at a wide hammer for the Model 1917 Colt, and the stamp is a fake Major Gilbert H. Stewart inspection and acceptance stamp.

Thanks Johnny. Help me out here and explain why you think it is fake. Not doubting you, I do not know anything about them. Wy would someone fake such a mark on a old crappy pistol?

A very good question as to why someone would fake the marking. Maybe just for practice. Here is the GHS marking on a Model 1911 shipped in July of 1917 for comparison.

it becomes quite obvious that it is not the same stamp when side by side. The spacing of the letters from the circles are way different. Thanks Johnny
