This is my first time on this forum so please bear with me. My dad recently passed away and among the things I aquired is a colt handgun. The engraving on the barrel says it is a "colt official police 38". The serial number is 670283. The barrel appears to be 4", assuming I am measuring it correctly? I have several questions;

1 - How do I find out when it was made?
2 - Who makes a holster to fit it?

I have already fired it and it appears to be in great shape!

Hi chassy, welcome to the forum. I am sorry for your loss of your Dad.

Your OP was made in 1941. I certainly hope you keep ahold of it as a way to remember your father. I know one of my favorite guns in my collection, is one that belonged to my Dad before he passed. Maybe not the best gun in my collection. Maybe not the most expensive either. It's not even a Colt. But none of the other guns I have bought or traded for over the years is as dear to me as my Dad's old Flat Top 3 screw Ruger Blackhawk.

To accurately measure your barrel, start from the business end and measure to the end that screws through the frame and terminates just in front of the cylinder.

Regarding holsters, you have a big choice. I will let others recommend one. I do have several holsters which work well for the OP, that I have used in the past. One is a Hunter Holster style 1100 in leather. Another is Bianchi nylon type. Yet another is a S&W.
