I just acquired a 1966 Colt Trooper in .357. It is in nice shape but missing the original grips. When I removed the reproduction grip panels I noticed a three letter marking on the frame, "INS". A search of the forum and Google brings up nothing for an INS marking on a Colt Trooper. All other markings on the revolver appear to be standard. Any idea what this stamp indicates?

It means "INSPECTED". You picked up a great handgun. Correct stocks are pretty easily available if that's what you want and aftermarket stock selection are pretty much infinite for a Colt E/I frame revolver.
