Not to be argumentative but I think you should go and take a look at the photos of that gun on GunBroker. I've made a ton of grips in my day and I've seen a lot worse than that fitting.

They just look to have been on that Colt for a long time and have shrunk a little as all bone does eventually.

Neat gun but man it needs some proper grips. I really like the purpose mods though. I'd have fun shooting it
