Is there any truth that our beloved company has been sold? Anyone hear anything about the buyer?

Which Colt? Defense or Manufacturing? Sam Colt hasn't owned it for a long time. It was bought out of bankruptcy in 1994 by an investment firm. In 2005, Defense filed to go public. So, what exactly is the latest rumor?

Rumor - just checking

This was posted over on the varmint hunter board: "Venerable firearms brand Colt's defense division has been sold to General Dynamics. The purchase preempts a public offering for that portion of the Colt company. The consumer portion of the bifurcated company (consumer/defense), is also being sold, with sources telling The Outdoor Wire the deal is "all-but-done". A total of eleven potential suitors were said to have been kicking the tires on the venerable brand. The winner may shock most of the firearms industry - as well as the other bidders"

I keep looking, but, so far, I have not been able to find any more information - maybe it is one of those internet rumors and that's it...

I just called Colt and was sold that Colt has not been sold! Whew.

Well, that too may be true, aside from the fact that customer service reps usually don't divulge sensitive company information to unknown callers even if they are in on it. I guess it'll just come out in the wash or fade away. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
