I used to have a Lightweight Colt Commander .45 with hardly any finish. I hated myself for selling it. I have $300 in my 1905 Colt Officer's Model .38 Special and a guy has a REALLY carried a lot 1973 Commander .45. He would take my .38 Special and $200 in trade. Pending inspection for alloy cracks and everything else, would this be OK, about even, or really bleepin' stupid on my part to trade. I already tried to sell the O.M. here once for $450 with no bites then decided to keep it.Thanks ahead of time, everyone. And that rear sight would have to go! If I keep the O.M. I'll sit on it and see how values increase on these old ones.

If you want the 45 I don't think it is a bad trade. They both look like shooter grade, nothing more, which one would you get more use out of? You cannot touch a colt lw commander in almost any condition for < 7 bills so I don't see how you could get hurt. ymmv

Keep the OM and if you want a LW again just keep your eyes peeled. I think that one is maybe a little more than "well used" and may have issues other than cosmetic and you can do better. But that's just me Matt......

They both look abused. Op already stated he tried to dump the om, which points to me that he does not really care to hold on to it. While the commander is definitely worn he stated he was going to have it checked for integrity and function prior to purchase. A worn/abused commander is still worth more than an abused om, imho. He can do upgrades over time to the commander that he cannot do to the om. He also wants the 45 and his position on the om were made clear. To me it is a matter of tossing a couple hundred dollars, if that, to get something he will get use out of. I may be foolish but I do not see the downside if the commander checks out

I told the guy I'd meet him to check out the Commander, and he can get a close look at the O.M. No response yet, but if the Commander is mechanically sound I'll go for it. I had the O.M. on a local site with lots of traffic for $450 or $475, can't remember, and no one was interested. Both guns are not encountered in any condition in Ca. as far as I've seen. Thanks, everyone. A couple holster sales will pay the difference. Sometimes a well used gun is mechanically flawless like this favorite below. As you can see I'm trying to blow smoke up my own.......a little here to justify the trade, but we'll see when I see it and take it from there.
