It may be my imagination but either this Colt .25 shrunk or the box grew!

WOW I wonder where he found the "matching box".......RR
Yup, with another Ozzie-made box.

That Fake Box Guy, he's something!
The box has to be a legit, after all "the serial number on the bottem of the box matches the serial number on the pistol;" and upon closer inspection you will notice that the serial number on the box is written in pencil and not Sharpie thereby definately making it the real McCoy. :)

Seems like the old saying "buy the gun, not the story" has now become "buy the gun, not the story and be sure to question the box." I'd love to post more photos of original Colt boxes to my site as I have many original variations that I know collectors would enjoy seeing, but the box fakers have created a huge disincentive for me to do so. There's no point in educating them.

It's a shame it's come to this.

Well said.
well if vikrant is selling it you can be assured it is legit, just new old stock
'New Old Schlock'...

Lol...

The whole presentation is stiff, contrived, laconic, overly 'careful', and overall, just has figurative 'Red Flags' waving all over the place.

I am not confident the .25 Automatic is even an original finish.

I took the liberty to edit the FBG's auction in the event anyone is unclear about his intent and/or business practices ;)

"Serial number on the bottom of the box matches Serial number on the pistol" (because I took great pains to put it there)...."This is a real Auction with a $1.00 starting bid --Therefore no refund or returns due to $1.00 starting bid" ( what? You want to return it because I sold you a fake box? How Rude) "and FREE Shipping" ( Because I already screwed you into paying too much)--"Tks for bidding and looking!!! Dennis" (Watch for my new line of original labels from 1873 found in an old boxcar in New Jersey).....

I think the pistol could possibly be refinished as well.

I believe you're correct. I have a 1922 that's been well worn, finish is typical of little blue and lots of patina and my VP stamp on my trigger guard is quite clear. If you'll notice the pistol in the auction there is only the faintest right corner of that VP left. Yep, refinished AND Fake boxed. It's a WINNER FOLKS !!!!!
You know Sam you could make a dummy box, post it where it would be copied....have a "documented" factory flaw...and pull the rug out from under him...for fun!
I just submitted a fraud claim with Gunbroker. Maybe if enough people do the same we can at least get him booted off gunbroker. Just go to "Help" at the top of the page, "contact support" and click on "fraud" in the drop down menu. It takes two minutes.

If history is any indicator, GB will not intervene. Most reports and/or claims submitted to GB fall on deaf ears unless it involves credit card/payment fraud and then they refer you over to your credit card company. They like the fees and don't police their site for misrepresentation. While a noble effort and I applaud your action, it will, most likely, be ignored.

I figured as much but thought I would give it a shot.
What do the original ones sell for in mint condition?
The language he uses to describe his products has changed quite a bit between his early box ad:

Remington Rand WWII 1911A1 Kraft Shipping Storage Box | eBay

and this later box ad:

Colt 1908 25 Cal Semi Auto Box Manual | eBay

Here's an interesting article:

http://www.wisconsinantiquedealers.com/reproductions__fraud

Quote:

"Last June, Fontinel and Johnson met with Jeanne Bumpus, Director of Congressional Affairs at the FTC, and members of the planning and information division of the FTC. Their goal was to have Antiques & Collectibles recognized as "consumer items" and to encourage the FTC to take note of the rampant fraud, which is taking place under the guise of "Antiques." The FTC agreed and the process began. Knowingly selling a fake is criminal fraud in most states."

Sam that's very interesting. There is also a link in there to the FTC website where you can file a complaint.
I just got a canned response from Gunbroker that they are "looking into it". Probably not going to look into it too hard though.
