Ivory or not?/ Yup they\'re Ivory

I have some single action ivory grips w/colt medalions. These
are beveled on top, of and to the front of the medalion. Did they produce these in ivory, imitation ivory, or both? would like to sell them, but don't know a fair price.

Re: Ivory or not?

Yes they were made in ivory.

Your first step is to determine IF they are real ivory.

To do this, heat up a small needle to red hot, and stick it into the grip somewhere inside, where it won't show.

If it melts a tiny hole, and smells like plastic burning, it's a synthetic.
If it burns with an acrid bad smelling smoke, it's real ivory.

If they are "real" ( the hot pin trick on the backside will tell you) then they can go from $350 and up, depending on "how they fit", can and will run undersized on some guns so one has to "try" 'em out first.
I have sold them over the past few months for $350 and $450, was all I could get at a show, Colt had them listed for around $700 "retail" last I checked, BUT try and get that.

Maybe on e-bay , who knows, nothing there surprizes me any more!
