I watched the movie Parkland, about the Kennedy assassination aftermath. While I know there was at least one AR15 in the followup car, the movie showed several
AR15 with birdcage flshhiders in the hands of both Secret Service agents and Dallas PD. I may be wrong ,but i thought there was only the one AR15 in the motorcade, that being the one held by Agent Hickey, and didn't think ARs were at all prevalent in '63,even with law enforcement. Also, the photo of Hickey with the AR15 sure looks like it has the prong flashider, like the one Kennedy was photographed with?
Does anyone know just exactly what type of AR15 the Secret Service had? I also wonder if they still have it.

Slightly OT, I do remember the Ar15 Sporter being offred in gun rag ads in 1964 or '65 for $189 with the 20 round mag blocked off to five rounds...

In 1963 it would have been the original AR-15, either in semi-auto or full-auto.
It would have had the original open prong flash hider.

The AR was not common or widely recognized by most people and law enforcement hadn't seen much of them yet.
Probably most cops would have no idea what it was.

One of the more ludicrous Kennedy conspiracy theories has the secret service agent in the following car raising his AR and fumbling it, not being familiar with the gun, and accidentally shooting JFK in the back of the head.
Of course, no one that day saw or filmed an agent standing up in the car holding this really unusual space gun-looking rifle.

Given the events of the day, I'd guess the AR is still in a secret service armory or museum.

I just looked at these images from Google image search.

At that time in late 63 there were two M16 rifle models that are being made for the US military, the M16 for the Air Force have no forward assist and they were delivered to them late that same year.

The Army had the XM16E1 which have forward assist because it was specifically requested only by the Army (also issued to other branches except the USAF), while the USAF, the inventor Stoner, and Colt stated that the forward assist was not really necessary.

There are other older AR-15 without forward assist in 1962 that was sent to South Vietnam for project AGILE, all those variants had the three prong duckbill flash suppressors, the closed birdcage type as only used in the late 1960s M-16A1.

If we could see a closeup of the forward assist or none, that would narrow down what type of rifle it was.

I stand corrected on this.

However, I don't see any of the agents looking at Hickey and saying "DUDE, you just accidentally shot the Man".

The bottom line on the assassination is "The Great Man Syndrome".
Great Men CAN'T die mundane deaths like ordinary men.
While ordinary men can slip on a banana peel, fall and break their neck, Great Men MUST be victims of Great Conspiracies.
The peel was planted by the FBI, CIA, Mafia, Castro, and the Boy Scouts.
He was tripped by a body guard. A rubber disappearing banana was fired at his foot by a sniper. And on and on.

The truth is, no one can accept that a little looser committed hard corp Communist who was a good enough shot managed to kill Camelot.
The injustice is that the Left in America have managed somehow to transform Oswald into some sort of Rightwinger, and they've managed to blame "the Rightwing climate of hate and bigotry of Texas and America" for it.
They've managed to alter the fact that Oswald was very much one of their own.

Well, the shooter had received some fairly high quality instruction during an earlier phase of his life.... seems to have missed out on some of the more important aspects of that training, though.

Dfariswheel may be referring to the recent show on one of the channels about the "theory" that Agent Hickey accidentally shot JFK and he readied the AR15 after LHO began shooting
and the Secret Service covered it up, the same show also insisted the Service was using devastating hollow point ammo in the AR15 which accounted for the damage of the fatal shot( I have no idea what ammo was available then). I don't believe any of it, and agree with dfariswheel 100%, loser Oswald wanted to impress somebody...

Unless I'm wrong (happens a few times a day) the killing of Kennedy gave birth to conspiracy in America. Seems like after that there was a feeling that all citizens are mislead on different events. From aliens to who ordered the events of 911. Even Hollywood has jumped onto the band wagon. That's why I have covered my TV with aluminum foil to prevent any further harmful rays!

That sounds like a conspiracy....
