I have seen many examples of beautifully engraved Colt SAA’s posted on this forum. I have always wondered who fully
engraved that pair of Great Western 4 3/4
Single actions gifted to Wayne by William Wilson, who ran the company at the time, and which the actor used in “The Shootist”, his last picture. Perhaps Jim Martin a member here, who I understand was at Great Western for a time has some information
as to who that engraver was, and what kind of ivory was on the guns. In the photos I’ve seen, they look like mammoth. Next time I’m in Oklahoma City, I need to go see them.
