I was looking at a Colt OP with the heavy 4" barrel today and noticed that the stocks were loose. Further inspection revealed that the screwhead was pretty far into the grip, like it had been overtightened many times.
The gun was very smooth and had excellent lockup and was in great shape except for some scratches on the barrel.
Can the stocks be fixed?
How does the price sound?
He wants $395

Thanks,
RDave

There are two methods:

One is to make up a tiny washer to slip over the screw and shim it up.

The best "fix" is to apply some wax or other release agent to the screw, clean out the screw hole with solvent, and put a dab of 5 minute epoxy into the hole.

Put the screw into the hole, (being sure not to get any epoxy into the threaded bushing on the OTHER grip half), and tighten the screw down until it looks about right.

Keep the excess mixed epoxy to check for proper hardness, and when it's ALMOST hard, carefully remove the screw, clean off the excess epoxy, and allow it to reach full hardness.

The same general technique works to tighten the fit of grips that have movement on the frame.

JB Weld just might do, but I've never tried it, only epoxy.

$395.00 is, in my opinion, high for an Official Police.

There are PLENTY of OP's around, and they usually go for lower prices.

I have no idea how many heavy barrel models were made, but that could add to the price.
