can anyone tell me which pistol this magazine is for, and the approximate vintage ?

* the magazine is all stainless - the dark areas are just shadows

seeing that you have full size 45s and are still asking this question, i'd say that the mag in your pic is the smaller one for an officer's acp and defender models.

guess I did not ask the question correctly, and I do apologize ..............


* I do have full size Colt 45s manufactured as early as 1992 , and the magazine in the picture is the same size as the magazines from these pistols however the end stamping does not match any of the others so I was trying to determine what particular pistol it may have come with and approximate age

It's a contemporary Colt magazine made by Metalform ("M"). The "S" designates stainless steel. Any current stainless full-size-butt Colt could have this magazine in the box with the pistol.
