Just bought a 3 inch slightly used 2020 Python and ordered a pair of what look to be original Colt gray Combat Elite grips for it. Kinda weird as I had just watched Hickok45’s old review of the 3 inch Python Combat Elite that he had bought. I also handled one of those cuties today at the Silver Dollar Pawn in Ramseur on the way home. A very pretty piece. I do like stainless. Can’t see where matte blue could work on a Python or Anaconda though. But I bet they would be cheaper to manufacture.

Who comes up with this crap?
The same people who came up with “New Coke”, a new and improved “Bud Light” commercial, and the since deleted new “Cracker Barrel” sign. As for the new matte Python there will be a market with the truck gun crowd.
Cracker Barrel could have gone a different way with less pushback had they used this as their new logo.

The antique business took a huge hit when they unloaded all of their ceiling and wall ‘decor’. Ate at several CBs this weekend what with attending the Colt Show. The food still tastes the same.

A matte finish may be more practical for a working firearm, but I agree it turns the new Pythons into just another mass-produced revolver. What made the original Pythons special is no longer present in the new ones.

And easier to cover up blemishes

Things change, like it or not.

My guess is Colt is trying to appeal to the hunting and tactical crowd with this finish.

It makes sense form an expanding the market point of view...just something about cheapening the Python "look" i find distasteful and unappealing. Maybe I need to broaden my horizons on this matter. Colt is a business and they make business decisions in an effort to increase sales, revenues and profitability.

Reactions: what would you say
More choices- Good.
cheapening the flagship - risky.

Rolex doesn’t make a 3/4” priced Submariner version do they?

I continue to beat the dead horse again. But
It just baffles me. I guess I need to know the numbers to understand.
Some Colt marketing manager may be saying “ boy I could shut this dude right up “.

The Python has gone from being Colt's premier offering meant for discriminating buyers to merely their flagship product being sold to everyone. It's like Ford with their Mustang. We all remember it as the pony car, and then the classic RWD, V8 musclecar. Now it's an EV/SUV as well. Absolutely nothing like the original car we all knew and loved. But... Ford owns the badge and they can put it on anything they want. Tradition is no longer profitable.

Much like a first-class gloss black paint job on a Corvette, the Colt Royal Blue finish of a Python shows every scratch from a mile away!

But a smooth satin-black finish makes either look most weapon-like!

Not a fan of matte blue on a Python either. Highly polished gloss finishes are as much a Python feature as the vented rib to my thinking. I do, however like the look of nicely done fine satin stainless as offered on certain Smiths, just not on Pythons.

I put in a call to Colt CS last week to put in my plug for blued Anacondas. That's the addition I'd really like to see.

I like the second part of your message for the most part or maybe .32 H&R Magnum…
I'd like them to explore their Cobra line and the .32HR Mag...I bet they could get 7 stuffed in that cylinder and it'd make a great and versatile revolver, spanning the full range of .32 options.
