Colt is not the only manufacture to test the matte blue finish. Browning 825's have matte blue barrels versus the previous model 725. I believe and maybe wrong, only one model the golden clays sporting model comes with a gloss blue finish.

I have to keep reminding myself that Colt isn't so much interested in selling to traditional (and older) Colt buyers...but to a new generation that has little affinity for the Colts of old...and hopefully keep them in the Colt fold. The new generation doesn't know Royal Blue from shocking pink...they know matte finished guns they see in the movies plus less expensive.

I'm increasingly discovering almost daily as I become more of an old fart that the things I like are out of style.

I'm seeing the 2.5" matte blue versions on Gunbroker already. I like the matte, but I want a shiny 2.5!

Potentially though this may mean that they did indeed make a run of 2.5" and perhaps some polished ones will be leaking out into the wild.

Smith & Wesson did quite a few. A member of my club has a 7-1/2in Model 29-? .44 mag with matte black finish and non-fluted cylinder! Wish it was a .41 Mag instead!!!

Most of the old farts are already turning their noses up at the new Python anyway. I would wager that 75% of those complaining about the new finish wouldn't buy any of the new offerings in the first place.

Wouldn't folks rather see polished and matte options if it means selling more guns? The question is, do people want Colt to flourish, even if it means making guns they don't want? Or do people want Colt to stick to tradition and go under........again?

I keep wanting to opine that it's just wrong for a Python to be finished in matte blue. But I keep looking and man, that 5 inch model sure has a Mean Business look to it. Find the right grips to enhance the look and I'm liking it.

I am blowing up this post with pics and videos when my 5" models come in :)

If law enforcement issuing revolvers was still a thing…the matte finished Pythons…both matte stainless and blue…make sense. It‘s just not a desire for me.

I'm 65. The #1 firearm I wanted the longest before I actually owned one was a Python. Back around 1991, the stars finally aligned and I found a beautiful 6in at a gun show for a fair price with the cash in my pocket. Not a scratch, original grips, no box. $500! The seller a Colt Collectors Assoc guy, threw in a pewter Python pin and Colt Belt buckle. After I got it home, I looked up the ser.no. and it was made the same year I was born!!! 🤗

'Bout a year ago, I stopped in one of my favorite local gun shops, and they had a new 6in stainless. Trade-in, but didn't appear to be fired much if at all. I stopped back the next day with my Python for a side by side.

Wanna guess which one came home??? 😉
