Over the weeked we had 3 seperate "new" type foreign scam attempts (atleast something I haven't experienced) .

All were posted in the Want to Sell forum . I've dealt with hundreds of spammers pushing electronics , nike shoes , porn , etc . These were specific gun/gun related items for sale with real photos(probably stolen from online ads) and priced below market value but not crazy low . Just enough to get quick attention and make the buyer think he found a deal . The items advertised were Colt revolvers and vintage Mauser scopes . The "seller's" IPs showed they were from Nigeria and Poland . One member had responded to a Colt revolver ad and was given an address in St Louis to send money .

All 3 were spotted by alert members , thank you !

Use caution when looking at items from members posting ads the same day they joined the forum .

I'm watching the new members as they join everyday but can't be online 24 hrs . Please report any suspicious posts and I'll take a look .

Other forums have seen atleast one of these guys as I've spoken to the administrators there too .

Be alert please :)

Guy,
Thanks for everything you do to make our experiance more enjoyable. And just so no one will think this is one of your old time buds showing support. That including banning me for 3 days when you felt I was out of line, no hard feelings I probably deserved it at the time.

I lost $1500 on another forum, bought a gun received the gun and year later the cops showed up and took it. It was stolen from a gun store by an employee. They told me he had taken around 200 guns from his employer. I don't expect to ever see the $1500.

I was just short of getting scammed by shutUdown posting a Colt Hunter on the 5th of May. His communications are poor sentence structure and poorly typed. The pictures were sent but the first batch with replaced foam in the Haliburton case. When asked about it he sent another picture of one complete with the foam cutouts, etc. His explanation was a friend sold some odd stuff and he had "both" now. I committed to buy but requested we do it through a 3rd party, my FFL, to escrow the funds and then of course the correspondence ended. He signed up the day he posted the gun. Also listed an Anaconda that was "sold". I hope another member didn't get taken. It has shaken my confidence in purchases. Now I am looking for a Hunter again.

I also commited to buy that Hunter but backed out for many of the same reasons. I think what he did was post a few times so he would look legit.

Thanks

I have "ALMOST" been cought in one of those scames befor. You really have to be careful. Someone needs to come up with a list of"WARNING" signs.

I sometimes ask for a picture of something unusual like just the grips only. If they don't have it--no picture no gun.

you should use a third party when dealing with any type of weapon....I always use a gun store to set up a buy...that way the risk is nearly none...
