Memphis Gun Show today...

I went to the Memphis Gun Show today. I took a S&W Model 25-5 on what must have been Colt Day!

I have never seen so many Colt "serpents" in one building before. Many of these were "walk around" guns, being brought with intent to sell. My observation was that many Pythons were shown, ranging in price of $950 for a 6" nickeled to over $2000 for blued versions. Diamondbacks were just slightly under the asking price for Pythons, the costlier guns being 4" blue .38 Specials. I did see one 8" Target Python .38 Special, I believe $2300 asking price.

I did see a few New Service Models, and one Official Police, but no M1917 Colts.

As Single Actions, only one dealer had any to display, and he was dickering with a walk-around seller for a .45 Colt with no finish remaining for $1200.

I took a Model 25-5 Smith and had a few lookers, one seroius but backed out at the last minute.

Still, beat staying home and doing chores.

I love walk around guns. You couldn't make any deals? I get the best deals that way. Thats how I got this King cobra.

Did have a couple of serious lookers, one offered $700 for my gun. Did have a few wanting a trade, but not what I'm looking for. I'm wanting to trade/sell off my DA revovlers for Single Actions, Colt, Ruger, USFA or Interarms Virginian (not the Dragoon). At one time wanted a Great Western, now not too sure.

I'll wait. Something will fall into my hands.

I attended a show in Mesa, Arizona today. Picked up a nice early 3rd Gen. SAA Nickel with 7 1/2" barrel in .357. It came with box and papers from around 1997. Gotta' love the gun shows. :)

I went to the Memphis show today just to get out of the house. Sat must have been the day. Nothing walking around at all. Lots of black rifles everywhere. Lots of ammo, except 22lr. Tons of military surplus. Oh well next time

One thing that struck my attention:

I had gone fairly early, shortly after 10:00 a.m. and I noticed about four "Good Ol' Boys" gathered with two Oriental (I assumed Chinese) men. The "Good Ol' Boys" had about six or eight cartons, some in that sort of brownish foam packing, some in white styrofoam, others in blue plastic cases. Each carton, or case, seemed to hold a nickel plated Python or Diamondback. And I heard one man say "Two Thousand dollars." I don't know what the final result was, as manners kept me from eavesdropping too long on somebody else's business.

Just appeared sort of out of the ordinary for two Chinese men to be haggling over a Colt, or several Colts.

Bob,
can you send me some pics of your Smith? Maybe we can talk :)
When I was young in the mid 1990's me and my dad used to go to camera shows on the west coast. We would buy Japanese and European cameras all year and sell them to the Asian mainly Japanese guys out there. The high on that market was about 1996. Two or three Japanese big whigs, with helpers, would fly in on the first night of the show, with suitcases containing $50,000 grand and would buy all the early Nikon and Leica stuff in under an hour. I have noticed some spill over into guns, lately. I saw a couple of guys that fit that description at the Las Vegas antique arms show. Many of these guys have vacation homes in the USA and can store their gun collections there. If the Asian elites have aquired the gun bug we have nothing to expect but crazy prices until the market overheats or the Yen and the Yuan crash which will probably happen after the dollar does. Asians love Americana it was only a matter of time until the guns got noticed.
