Good write-up above explaining differences. I use MIG & used to have TIG. Obvious that TIG has several superior attributes over MIG but also is demanding of a higher level of skill or experience to employ them. Cost of a TIG setup is several times that of the MIG.

I had TIG on loan for a while but had to return it. Now with my 100 amp Lincoln MIG several years, it has been entirely satisfactory, quick, cheap & not demanding of more skill than I have. If I need heavier welding I use my old stick arc welder. A very few times I might have benefitted by the stronger weld possible with the TIG - but probably wouldn't have had the skill to put it to use.
