These boxes were being sold on EBay by a guy who was making them and stated clearly they are reproduction boxes.Guess Vikrant has a new source for these "rare" boxes.I guess people either know they are fake or buy them to live in a safe with thier Colt and they never find out that the box is fake.

A gun that is truely "NIB" is a wonderful thing to a collector but I have never understood the need to collect. To me guns were meant to be shot and the only thing accomplished by Safe Queens is that your heirs will enjoy the money they get for them. To me shooting my Colts give me far more pleasure than locking a NIB away. With the flood of fakes, it is sad to say that you must look at the boxes as fake until proven otherwise. If I ever get my Python wish gun it will be either thru Marc of Keystone Arms or John Fugate because thier reps are impecible and I will be getting exactly what is presented.

Unfortunately it is happening because many people buy the fake, put thier gun in it,put it in the safe, and there it will live for years. Most people take it at face value that it is real and another fake enters the marketplace. I am glad I have the views I do.I buy a Colt for my "Accumulation" to shoot it.The "box" has no real intrinsic value to me as none of my guns are collectable.I am in the market for a plastic Colt Box for the practical reason of having a case if one needs to be shipped back to Colt for work. If it is a "fake" Colt case who cares as long as it will suit the purpose of shipping.

John that is why I am not in the "Collector" category. For some it is great that They just want to keep NIB examples and if that is what makes them happy God Bless Them. I would love to have a shooter grade Python but I can't justify spending that much money when I have a Peacekeeper 4 inch 357 magnum that I shoot evry once in awhile and totally enjoy. I do have a example of a totally original Detective Special box that was given to me from a dealer I send alot of buisness to in the course of my pistol classes.I was at his store and made a casual comment about the rediculous prices D.S. boxes were going for.He smiled, flipped a box to me, and asked "Like this One?" As I went to take out my wallet he said "For all the Buisness you have sent me it is yours.Karma has been very good to me.My other FFL friend handed me a set of 1963 Diamond J frame grips and said "Early Merry Christmas".They live on my Model 36 Classic Chiefs Special.BTW the case I am looking at came from a estate sale and is from 1993.That is a good year because it was the year I met Ginny.......Mike

With the explosion of fake boxes it is best to not let the box into the equation. You are buying a GUN NOT A CARDBOARD BOX.I have gotten much better @ spotting the fakes and I have refrained from bidding due to the fake box, hang tag ect even though the gun was good.If more people did this then the practice would slow down
QUOTE=Toidroid;506049]What I have taken from the many box discussions on the forum is that I do not know how to tell if the box is fake. Therefore, I have no business paying anything extra for a gun because it has a box.[/QUOTE]
