I got my ‘41 home and did a minor restoration to get it looking like a 1911A1 again. The gentleman who owned did some home gunsmithing by adding an aftermarket front sight and a high profile rear sight. He also added a crowned barrel with a brazed up bushing to increase a tighter lockup. The front sight, unfortunately, was brazed (he probably didn’t know what a staking tools was). Thank goodness it came out with little difficulty. I cleaned up the brazing material as best as I could and also managed to mute the heat discoloration.

I ended up adding a ‘43 parked Colt barrel and both sights. Still waiting on a parkerized barrel bushing. Overall, I think it looks presentable again. It’s too bad it had the “Bubba” work done to it. The parts remaining look like they could’ve been original. Here’s a couple before and after pics:

A quick question: I noticed the slide stop, thumb safety and grip safety appear to be a darker parkerizing. I thought I read somewhere that some small parts on the early parkerized pistols were darker than the slide and frame. Or, am I imagining that? Thanks.

The small parts were tempered, and tend to be darker than the receiver or slide (except where the end of the slide was tempered).
