The previous owner of my recently acquired 1st Gen SAA says he shoots Black Hills cowboy loads through it as well as bp handloads. This is my first foray into antique firearms that still function, so I must ask-- is it safe for me to shoot cowboy low pressure loads (HSM, Black Hills, Hornady...) as well as bp, or only BP? Either way, I'm all ears for tips and tricks for maintaining and looking after this old Colt.
these old colts and the bisley ran on BLACK POWDER. it is easy to load, just clean after, with hot soap and water, vin

I have a Colt SAA in 38/40 manufactured in Feb. 1900 which is in excellent condition and I mean excellent condition and it is supposed to be for modern powder, but take that with a grain of salt since Colt I believe and someone can correct me that January 1900 was the cutoff between black powder and modern powder or somewhere in those months. I wouldn't shoot modern powder in mine unless you reload which I do, but then I'm shooting cowboy loads and I haven't done that in the last few years, but that is just me. Not only can you blow up that Colt, but hurt yourself in the process so why take a chance. That's just my two cents.
