I tried for for months to order a SSA from the Custom Shop only to be told it would be 2+ years, then they're not taking orders any longer. This Saturday I spent the day (9.5 hrs) going to as many gun stores as possible. I've found you can get unexpected surprised by looking in the nooks and crannies. I had just bought a Kimber 1911 that I had my eye on for awhile and thought I was done for the day until my nephew texted about a shop he had heard might have a SSA. Low and behold, they had 4, 2 commemorative ones, an SSA in .357 w/ a Bob James action job and a SSA 45LC.

I could not believe my luck. After months of looking everywhere, I stumble on one locally. The only problem was the price. I had just bought the Kimber an hour previously and didn't want to bust my budget. I was telling them I would be back in 2 weeks to get it but I was also worried it wouldn't be there when I was ready. It wouldn't be smart for me to buy it then... but then I remembered. I don't do many smart things, so it worked out. I've got a new Colt SSA in 45LC. I had someone standing by who has ivory grips for when I found one. Time for my next unwise purchase.

I stand corrected, I found an SAA :D. At least I didn't call it an ASS.

SAA, 5.5", Blue, Case Hardened. As I mentioned earlier, I had previously found someone who still has legal ivory for the grips that I'll be adding. Originally I was looking for one in 7.5", but considering how had it is to find any Colt SAA, I've very happy. The shop even threw in a box of bullets. It will be a shooter, I'm not one to buy something like this just to hide it in the safe.

Others will disagree with me, but that is the perfect colt SAA in my book. The case colored frame on a 5.5" barrel and 45 colt is the epitome of what a colt SAA should be. I can't wait to see the after pics with the ivory. Nice find.
