I found this beauty locally - an 2003 hard chrome Colt Special Combat Government 1911. It is used with just a few rounds through it, has Colt medallion grips instead of the standard grips, and looks fantastic I think. Can't wait to get to the range as the trigger is fantastic. Hopefully I can post a couple of photos.

nice piece, I have a 2-tone one. btw, I think it could very well have been shipped with those grips.
Congrats Dave, the Special Combat Government is a phenomenal pistol! ace may very well be right, I'm not certain about a 2003 issue but all Special Combats I've seen, own and have handled, came with magwell stocks.

Congratulations and if it is like mine you'll love it at the range. I have the hard chrome and love it. I'm not sure that the grips are original issue, but still a great find.
The first Special Combats started coming out in the early to mid 90's. Those guns came with grips that had Colt medallions and the carry model had no magwell.
Thanks chaos rob! I will send it to your ffl if you drop me a cashier's check in the mail!
Colt-SL and all:
I can't wait to shoot her! The previous owner told me the grips were purchased separately and were installed on this Colt. He didn't sell it to me with the original grips... but that's ok I love the Colt grips with the medallions.

I'm not sure what the original grip should be ace. I've seen pics of the 2-tone SCG on GunBroker --- it shoots great right?
