This pistol was purchased by the 85 year old former owner's Dad in 1936 and has sat in a safe for the most part since then.
I will be ordering an archive letter to keep with my "new" addition.

Wow, that's a real beauty, makes you wonder how many more like it are tucked away somewhere.Did it come with the original box?
Unfortunately, no box. But I do have original paper instruction sheet & copy of 1st owner's NYS pistol license. I would certainly appreciate any suggestions by members about obtaining a suitable box.

That is a beautiful OP. Is it a 5" barrel ? I would run a couple of cylinders full of standard 158 gr. LRN's through it occasionally. Does it have a T or L stamped above the serial number under the crane ?
It has an L stamped above and a faint E below. I thought it was a 5" when I measured the barrel but the FFL says it's a 6." I'll call Colt on Monday to get the answer.

Looks 5" to me as well, measure in front of the cylinder to the end of the barrel. I have 2 that are as nice, one I am sure it has not been fired except by the factory in 1939. Very nice O.P. they are the best .38 Special revolvers ever made in particular 5".
