I am looking for a part for an original Colt black powder .36 Cal revolver. It is the wedge screw to hold in the wedge securing the barrel. I spent $20 to order the screw online but the one that came is much too small. Too short and too small in diameter. The screw I need is about 1/4" long with machine threading on it.

As background, this pistol belonged to my grandfather, and I played with it as a kid in the 1950s. I used to melt the lead to make the balls, load it up with black powder, and wadding. I shot it a few times and blew a few holes in my grandmother's chicken coop fence. I'm now 80 and want to give it to my son. If anyone has a supply of screws, one might fit, so please contact me.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks to the two of you who replied to my inquiry. I'm a total novice and maybe need to ask a more basic question so let me rephrase it. When one puts the wedge in, what holds it in place? It looks to me like it needs a spring tab of some sort to keep it from sliding out. I can't see that the Wedge screw does anything. Help, please.

I can't add anything. It looks like the guys above pretty well covered all of it.
I'm sure your grandmother was really pleased with the "flow-through ventilation" you ingeniously provided in her chicken coop. ;) 😁

Hi folks. I am still looking to resolve the problem with my 1861 Colt Navy; unfortunately, you folks are my only hope so please indulge me.

When I slide the wedge in to hold the barrel assembly to the cylinder/grip, it easily falls out and the whole business falls apart. That is why I am still looking for a wedge with a spring doohickey to keep it in place. I would also like to see a schematic that shows a wedge with an attached spring clip to hold it in place. The only schematic I have seen looks exactly like the one I own (wedge with no spring). It looks like the small screw just above the wedge might serve the purpose of holding the wedge in place but the (expensive) screw I purchased didn't do the trick. Any ideas?

I hope I am making sense?

Thanks,

Tom
