I want to thank those that were so helpful in this thread regarding this gun I was looking at. I'm an HK guy and was pretty new to 1911's other than loving my Dan Wesson Specialist. I was very green to old war horses though. I've learned a LOT in the past week or two.

I picked up the gun yesterday and proceeded to strip it down and give it a good detailed cleaning and lube/finish protection. The pistol has it's original finish in all area's and is, to me, in very good condition for how these 1918 guns normally are. It came apart like a brand new gun. The sear and hammer pins slide out effortlessly and there wasn't a spec of corrosion anything on or in the pistol. There is very slight holster wear on the muzzle, about 25% finish flaked off on the MSH, slight finish wear on the bottom half of the front strap, a small scratch on the top of the slide near the rear sight and every so slight blemishes here and there that aren't even worth mentioning.

I don't plan to shoot the pistol. I photographed all of the parts while it was apart for reference in the future and I just plan to keep it on a wood 1911 stand in the safe as a family heirloom.

The story that I got on the pistol was that the seller (to the store) was born in 1932 and his father brought this pistol back from WWI and it just sat around since then for the most part.

Colt fever is in full swing!

I ran across a 1918 at a local show a week ago that was perfect. Not a mark on it with sharp checkered grips. Everything matched and looked good, too good.
He was asking $2800 firm.
The more I considered purchase, I started leaning toward it being a restoration instead of original. No story/paper to document and he had only owned it three years.
I passed but still wonder. I have two already but it was really perfect.
