Not sure if anyone will truly know. Just one of many great models in Colts history that were started then abruptly stopped. Could have been a number of reasons though; upper management company direction/ production shift, wholesalers not immediately placing orders for them, or just tested the waters for a bit. Who really knows? Too bad though seemed like a great compact carry piece to me.

Possible Caveat Emptor re: Colt GDA

Last weekend (12/1), I won a GB auction for a Government Model Double Action. After nine days and four attempts to contact the seller, I have still heard nothing from him. The seller had Zero feedback to date, so I was a little hesitant to bid, but I went ahead anyway. His location shows as Orlando, FL.

The pistol appears to be S/N GDA01187, but it's impossible to tell for sure from the pictures. Both the label on the box and the S/N on the pistol are somewhat obscured in the pics.

I Googled the guy's user name & email address, and was not impressed with what I found. After hearing nothing for nine days, I have given up on this pistol, and at this point, I would not be comfortable sending the guy several hundred bucks anyway.

Sooo, if anyone happens to see this gun for sale, I would suggest you proceed with caution!

FWIW

Reading back over this thread, I've seen several references to a "VP Stamp". My understanding is that this means "Verified Proof", and indicates the pistol has been proof tested. I'm not sure where I would find this mark on my GDA's, if they have it.

Can someone enlighten me? TIA!

On my new agent, it appears in the typical spot along with the assemblers stamp. If you zoom in on the picture I posted, you should be able to see it in the upper left hand trigger guard area.

I didn't take a picture of that area on my government, but will check it out tonight when I get home.

So I ordered what I thought was a set of closeout grips from Altamont for my Double Eagle. Got here today, noticed they didn't look right. Soon as I turned them over realized exactly what they were when I saw the inset on the back side and small hole in the front of the left panel. They are for a New Agent DAO. Have a Government DAO, unfortunately don't have one of the 100 New Agent DAO's they produced.

Well someone here will snap then up! Don't send them back!

I really wanted a New Agent DA since at least 2011, probably earlier .
My plan also was ivory , nothing like ivory on a blue Colt.
NC ORDANANCE in Carolina has them for a long time @$400
Someone in state really needs to see Mr Harvey and snap them up !
I say 3 Franklins face to face snaps them up.
