I just found this forum and am sure glad to see a place to discuss Colt firearms. I have a question, I just traded for a Colt Officer's Model Special, ser 614XX, in very good shape. I was wondering about the rarity of these guns and the year of manufacture. Any and all information on these models along with Officer's Model Match would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Things get real confusing around the time of the Officer's Model Special.

At this time, the Officer's Model Special, the Officer's Model Match, and the Trooper were all sharing serial number ranges.

A near as I can tell, your OMS was made in 1950.

The OMS was introduced in 1949 at number 60001.
It looks like the serial numbers for 1950 started with 60300, and the numbers and the model ended around 65000 in 1951.

So, the OMS was only made for three years.

The Officer's Model Match was introduced in 1951 to replace the OMS, and was made until 1969.
