Went to a gun show today and came home with an unusual Police Positive Special. On the barrel, "Police Postive Special" is stamped with ".38 Colt NP - .38 S&W" underneath it. On the handle, " RHKP 9204 " is stamped. Assuming it stands for Hong Kong Police. Even the grips are neat. It's a 1965 serial number and in excellent condition. Will post pictures of it tomorrow.

It's one unique revolver.

Hello ky40601.....

I have your PPS (RHKP) brother also. Back in the early 90's I purchased mine from SOG. Those RHKP Colt's were going for something like $100.00 or so. Mine came in pretty good condition and was chambered in .38 S&W too include a lanyard. My RHKP POLICE POSITIVE SPECIAL came with a matt-black finish. Very un-Colt like! I don't know if these RHKP PPS were ordered that way from Colt or they were done by an RHKP armourer. All of the ones I've seen has that matt-finish on them. Oh yeah, the "timing" was on, a very important issue when purchasing any of the older D-frames. Enjoy your very fine Colt six-shooter......David:)

About 9-10 yrs. ago I bought a Royal Hong Kong Police 4" S&W mod 10-7. It was bright blue and practically new. I believe that the 4 digit # following the RHKP on back of the grip frame was the officers badge #. I have since divested myself of most of my Smiths. I'd like to have that one back.

Here’s the “Royal Hong Kong Police” Police Positive Special. It’s one unique revolver with the molded thumb rest on the left grip and the Colt emblem on the right grip. Plus, the markings. I really like it. It's so neat.

RE grips on above

This sounds like a thread diversion--but I feel it's relevant to the RHKP weapons.

Some years ago I purchased a Police Positive Special Marked REPUBLICA COLUMBIA / POLICIA NACIONAL. This weapon came with the same pattern grips as the RHKP PPS illustrated in the previous post, albeit in a round butt style, with the Colt logo molded into the grip, and a left thumbrest. The grips on my PPS showed less wear than the rest of the revolver. I've always assumed these inexpensive thumbrest grips were added by the importer to meet ATF criteria. Seeing this same pattern grip on the RHKP PPS reinforces my speculation.

Can anyone confirm or refute that these grips were installed by the importers, and not the original users? I'm not trying to deprecate the previous poster's PPS, but am hoping to learn.

As a newbie here I hope its OK to resurrect an old thread like this one. I only own two Colt police positives. Both police/ military related. One is marked RHKP the other REPUBLICA COLUMBIA / POLICIA NACIONAL. They both carry the molded plastic grips like the ones mentioned above. After reading the previous post I now wonder if the grips are original equipment or possibly added by importer. Anyone know how they left the Colt factory? Thanks

I bought 2 police positive specials from hunters lodge in the early 90’s for about $100 each. I specified that they have the short grip frame ( 1966 or later). The 38 special was the older long grip frame and the short grip frame was a 38 colt new police RHKP. I had my FFL send them both back for refund. Now I wished I kept the RHKP model but back then, I had absolutely no interest in reloading 38 S&W.

Now I like the challenge so with my bankers special and pre-WW2 police positive in 38 Colt NP, they both shoot .358 diameter lead bullets just fine.
