New Python upgrades

919 Views 27 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Archer1440

Monday I will be installing these Wilson sights and Badger grips on a 4.25” Heffron-tuned Python. It’s a fabulous shooting gun and this will upgrade it even more.

Absolutely. Will be done Monday while I wait. Those screws are all too tiny for me to do. Pictures right after.

Very nice! I like the sound of the Heffron tuning too, haven't done that yet. I'm changing grips and rear sight on my 4.25" Python either today or tomorrow too.

I put 50 .357s, 150 .38s and 50 .45s down range yesterday. Mostly thru the shorter Python. Just to be sure that’s the one to tweak. It is. BTW I can’t figure out why Colt dropped the Government Model lightweight. What a dream to carry in a good high riding hip holster.

Fantastic added upgrades. I've got my sights on the bench, waiting for a rainy day off inside. I'm considering doing the Heffron action work, just to see what it'll do. Comparing it now, I'd give the edge to my King Cobra, so the Python would definitely benefit from the work. It's the shipping hassle and cost holding me back for now.

I just added the Wilson Combat rear sight to both of my Pythons, 3 inch and 4.25 inch. The Wilson rear sight is what the new Python needs. It is extremely well made and rock solid. No slack in it at all. And very positive windage and elevation movements.

I am not certain yet on what front sight I want to use however. I purchased both the red and green fiber optic Wilson front sights. I like the Red; not a big fan of the green.

But I have been thinking about getting the patridge front sight with white gold bead.

I wish that there was a simple black front sight available that was the same as the standard front sight just without the orange insert.

Once you have the sights installed, please post pictures and your impressions of them.

Got it all done today. Will put pictures up tomorrow. Surprised nobody caught it, I didn’t realize it myself, but that other Python in the picture is my 5”, not a 6”. I will put a picture of that up tomorrow too, next to a 6” for comparison.

I can see the potential problem with the new Colt rear sights and the tiny windage set screw, but has anyone actually reported problems with these rear sights. I already bought a set of Wilson Combat sights for both my Python and Anaconda and I think Colt would be wise to contract with Wilson for their eights.

Yes, many people have reports problems with the rear sight.

1. The windage adjustment does not have positive clicks which makes is difficult to know exactly how much you have adjusted them.
2. The windage adjustment is a bad design. It uses a tiny set screw that is very easy to lose, requires a just a tiny allen wrench any time you need to make an adjustment.
3. The windage screw does not stay tight and has worked it self lose for a lot of people. And good luck finding that tiny thing once it comes out.
4. The attachment point of the rear sight allows for side to side movement of the rear sight which can result in your sights point of aim POA shifting after each shot, lowering accuracy. Day at the range posted a video on his YouTube channel showing shot inconsistency with a new Anaconda. Installing the WC rear sight corrected this.

Some people also find that the rear sight blade is a bit too short as well.

The Wilson Combat rear sight addresses and fixes every issue with the factory sights. Colt (or CZ) should re-design the rear sight (or license the WC rear sight).

I’d very much like to hear more about the Heffron tuning, like what work was done and what is the resulting double action pull weigh.

the “new” Python is a great gun, just as it is shipped. Add the Wilson Combat sites (here the square, serrated rear and white gold bead front), Badger grips (black walnut, gloss finish) and the Heffron tune, and this thing shoots lights out. Put 100 .38s all DA thru it yesterday and 25 .357s and this baby shoots better that I do.
