Well we all know that Ruger discontinued the 357 maximums and the story goes they melted down the ones left over and returned .......well I just bought a pair of each 7 1/2 and 10 that were cut in half at the factory.....still in their boxes....just because I needed something to go with my experimental ammo......

Pics when I get them.....

So.... you bought four halves?

I don't know that I'd care to heavy-load cast frames re-welded.

But then too, welding advancements have left me behind.

Well I got them relatively cheap just for their history......
I can't weld but have a friend who is very talented....
Somewhere years ago I have a thread about an early Ruger 357 he saved for me......
Along with a few other talented friends .......

4 complete guns that are cut in half......
Ahhh... four pairs. I missed that.👍

If the price is right - it'd be a project I'd find interesting too. But then, I'd likely go high & to the right and try to scramble them into something weird like a .25-20 or some such nonsense. I've always had a hankering for a .25-20 revolver but haven't run across a suitable candidate sufficiently de-valued to risk it.

If the guns are cut exactly in half why not magnetize one half, then it would hold to the other half for display purposes. Even light handling wouldn't break them apart. Seems a shame to alter their unique factory induced condition.

The more that I look at the linked thread - the more I figure I'd be all OVER the option to do this too.

The 'destruction' looks very clean and straight-forward and decidedly NOT complete. Too, the thread does not address nor show whether the cylinder accompanied the pieces nor its condition.

Looks VERY interesting and I'm really curious about the in-house decision to cut them to remove them from the market and then go ahead and sell the pieces 'outside' (more or less) the firearms market. Very weird, that.

Well I am uncertain on exactly how these were acquired.....maybe lunch box guns
The previous 357 Flat Top came with no parts which was fine as I have a Ruger stash with all the screws, lock work, frames, grips, barrels, and cylinders :) (doesn't everyone)

Be a Capitalist……..keep some as they are and part out the rest…..you have cyclinders, internal parts such as the trigger, mainspring, bolt, pawl and other pins and springs, ejector housings with guts, barrels, stocks, sights….and after it all gutted out put the two pieces on a plaque with the caption underneath, “I’m so rich I can cut up new guns”.

Personally, I’d be happy to buy a complete parts set, sans the frame for your asking price…..Ive shot several thousand rounds out of this 10”…don’t believe the lies about top strap flame cutting. The flame cutting came from guys shooting casefulls of H110 with 110-125 grain bullets.—6
