Hello All,

I'm new to the forum, but I just inherited an Official Police .22 from my father-in-law and wanted to get some thoughts on it. I don't really expect that it's anything out of the ordinary, but I know next to nothing about this particular type of gun, so I thought I'd consult the experts. The serial number 39184, which I believe puts its manufacture in 1953. It's got some of the blue worn off from being kept in a holster, but it doesn't appear to have been shot much, and all the mechanical parts work fine. One of the grips is broken at the bottom, and I'd be interested in any suggestions on where to find an original replacement grip (if such things are even still around). I've posted some pics below, so feel free to have a look, and if you see anything interesting, I'd love to know about it.

Best,

Chris

Grey, welcome to Coltforum! Thanks for showing us your very nice OP.

Did you know that, by clicking on one of your photobucket links, one can see all of the photos in that account?

That revolver appears to be a correct OP from the early 1950s, with the typical shrunken Coltwood stocks.

It should be an excellent shooting revolver, and I encourage you to take it to the range often.

Thanks for the info, Collects. I am looking forward to shooting it sooner rather than later.

I did know that all of my Photobucket pics are visible, but I only use this account for online gun stuff, so there's nothing there that's not already floating around the Internet anyway. :) I do appreciate the concern, though. These days, you can never be too careful.

A nice pair of silver/wood service stocks/grips will look and function perfectly they are available on ebay and gun broker.com.Any I.E. frame Colt stocks will fit ,I like service stocks on the O.P. size guns the .22 is going to be a bit heavy but outstanding quality not to be repeated. Nice gun, give it to one of your kids one day.

I have a .22 6" barrel OP and I shot a 3/4 inch group out of 6 shots at 15 yards (rested) using Federal 40 grain LR shells. So, I know it is very accurate. Offhand, I typically shoot an inch and a half to 2"group. When I shoot the 3/4" group offhand, I'll feel pretty good.
Mine shoots to the left about 1" at that range,so if I want to hit dead on I should hold a hair to the right.
Maybe you'll get lucky and yours will not hit left or right at that range.
Let us know how she shoots.
