greetings to all , i require some odd advise regarding a Official Police Heavy barrel barrel, I purchased the barrel to install on a colt Op.
the barrel has never been installed on a revolver and is basically NOS , but do to careless storage there is only about 70-80% fininsh left.
do these barrels have any value ??
or do i install it on my Op and cut the shank for head
-space ??

any ideas, please post , many thanks rj

I have both a pre war, well 1943, O.P. and a postwar "transition" O.P. that came with the 6" Heavy Barrel, the pre war so marked on the barrel.

They really give the O.P. a different feel in shooting, and soak up recoil.

I assume that the O.P. that you will have the heavy bbl. grafted to,is NOT a nice original collector piece??

I thought Cold only had a heavy barrel for their OPs.
What is the difference? Anyone have pictures. Here is one of mine from 1944. Looks heavier than the S&W MP

hi lone wolf , well the recipient Op is sorta , its a 1953 vintage NYPD OP that needs a barrel, I'm tempted to heavy barrel it , but unsure as once i cut the barrel headspace for the cylinder gap thats it ,mmmmmmmmmmm!
