Ok I posted before regarding a LGS find, a 2 1/2" nickel Diamondback w/ blued extractor star. I finally have it and now I am wondering what I should do next. I don't know if I should spend the $ for a letter, since it didn't come with a box or paperwork. Or do I put this out for someone that would appreciate it more, as I bought it with no intention to shoot it and/ or just enjoy this snake and shoot it?

Didn't see that first post and you didn't link it. If you bought it for an investmet then please go away. If you bought it because you love Colts then I'm damn glad to meet ya. If your situation is the later then I would suggest shooting/cleaning and keeping it for the rest of your life and then leaving it to someone you like who will do the same. I've said this before and I'll say it again, any Colt you let go of today, you'll pay twice as much for one half as nice ten years down the road. Also remember that the snake Colts are extra special and hard to find.

Without the box I hardly see the point in lettering it. You won't be selling it for huge dollar without the complete package so I would save the $$$ on the letter and buy another box or two of ammo with it.

Nice Piece, one of my personal Favorites.

I would hang onto it. Diamondbacks in nickel and 2 1/2 are rare. The blue star is an obvious replacement on the gun. The owner probably couldn't find a nickel one so just got a blue one for it. Skip the letter. Plus it has the nickeled sites which is rare. Most likely it is all factory except the replaced star. That's a nice little gun. For the right price I would take it to complete my collection of snakes and barrel sizes.

For the record, I bought this because I have caught the "Colt Bug." My concern being new to the Colt collecting game is should this gun be legit and 2 1/2" seem to command higher values whether making this a shooter is a good idea. I have always thought the Colt Python/Diamondback is hands down the most attractive handgun ever made. Thanks everyone for your replies.

I really liked the responses in this post. It's nice to hear people saying to use a gun for what it was intended; shooting, not a stock to put in a safe deposit box. I'd say shoot it too, but I shoot my guns. Look at it this way. If it's a "rare type" and worth, I'm guessing, $1,000 in 10 years if in 100% condition, or worth only $800 if used and in 96% condition, will you care about the $200 loss? Or is carrying it, having people comment on it at the range, having kids remember their uncle who "carried that silver Colt" worth $200 to your life?

I agree with the rest - keep it and enjoy that gorgeous puppy!
