Hi guys , what PD issued Troopers in either .38 special or .357 magnum ??
other than the late Florida Highway Patrols Nickeled Trooper . 357 5 inch ,
they must have been other Pd 's that issued ??
many thanks, roj ??
Large numbers of sheriff's departments and a good many police departments issued the original Trooper, simply too many to know.
It was very popular in the 50's and 60's with law enforcement. A lot of departments had issued the Official Police for many years and saw the Trooper as a good upgrade.
I used to have one in .357 that was stamped on the butt "OCSO". Orange County Sheriff's Office?? Who knows?
I retired from the department in Raleigh, N.C. in 1999. My first issue handgun in 1973 was a well used Colt Trooper in .38 and was replaced a couple of years later with a Trooper MKIII in .357. It was eventually replaced with a Smith '66 the last revolver we carried. I purchased all three as we transitioned. I still have them along with my last carry gun the Smith 1076 that was given to me when I retired. The Trooper .38 had been used by someone on the departmental pistol team. It was smoother than any Python I have ever owned.
