Get it recently? It's a beaut! My favorite cartridge.

Tell us about it.
A 2nd gen or pre war/post war? (last 12 assembled in Feb 1961 and some were 44 Spl.)

Eagle grips didn't come along until 1970 on the 2nd gens.

I think Wilkerson wrote that the latest 2nd gen 44 spl. was in the 43XXXSA SN range. I guess one that late could have had the later type grips.

Only if the 44 shipped 4 years after production of 44s ended.

The grips can be confirmed as original or not because the grips should have the serial number scratched on the back side.

The Colt web site dates my gun as 1960 Post War.
The Colt Letter for the shipping date of 1963, one gun in the shipment.
Was not concerned that the grips did not match when I bought it and there was no was no box.
Something like only 2,000 of 2nd Gen. guns were 44 SPL? What is survival rate?

The figures I found somewhere are 2230 SAA's (170 nickel) and 250-255 New Frontiers

Had a problem finding my Post in order to give a reply.
The lower grip frame screw had been interchanged with one of the upper grip frame screws. Corrected.
