Charles; I wish I'd saved my old "Gun List" and "Shotgun News" issues from around 15 years ago. Century was importing these 4" Police Pos. Specials,from,I think,Singapore?? They came in various "conditions,and most had replacement plastic stocks,or well worn originals.

It might have been Hong Kong,but those were the S&W M&Ps, I think.

Could well be South America,say Colombia,and the Bogota police in Colombia used P.P. Specials,but Wilson and Sutherland say they were "roll marked".

In any event,its from "away". I almost bought one to covert to a .32 Magnum,as Gun Parts Co. was offering post war Police Positive Special bbls. in .32 cal,and .32 cylinders that had been reamed for the then fairly new .32 Magnum. But I have a Colt Courier .32 and thought the conversion would be redundant.

Hopefully,someone with better memory than I,will chime in,as these guns were fairly common about 15 years ago at many gunshows,selling in the $100-$125 range,retail. Bud

I too, have a couple with mystery markings that I could find no reference to; finally my curiousity got to me and I sent for factory letters. If you want to spend the dough, it's sort of like a grab bag.

Was it worth it for me? In one case, yes; and in another the letter raised more questions than answers which has had me sending letters to libraries in NY for info, etc.

Maybe also try contacting Century Arms. Good Luck.

Of all the Century Arms Colt Police Positive revolvers I've ever seen, all of them were Columbian Police issue.

The only other PPS's that came in in the last 30 years, that I can remember, were the Hong Kong guns which were plainly marked as such.

One sure sign of a Columbian issue is if the left grip has been replaced with a black plastic grip with an odd thumb rest.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the "B" stands for Bogota police.

The Hong Kong guns were marked on the backstrap and have a lanyard ring. The Colombian National Police PPS are marked on the barrel.

The guy I got this gun from had three of them.The other two had worn wood stocks and the #s on the butts were "A-xxxx".This one has the plastic logo on the right and the thumb rest on the left like is commonly encountered on the Hong Kong guns.

A Colombian city PD (like Bogota) sounds reasonable.

Keep the ideas coming! I currently have 61 police agencies & am always buying/trading.

While we are on the subject.....How about :

1) N.P. 5 (Detective Special)
2) ZP in a circle on the right side of the frame (Police Positive Special)???

Hello Group,

I collect police dept. marked/issued revolvers and just acquired one that I need help in identifying.

It is a 1938 vintage Police Positive Special (4"bbl. blue finish,.38spl.) that is marked "B-1011-" on the butt and has Century Arms import marks( CAI ST ALB VT) on the underside of the barrel. Any ideas as to where this gun was issued?
