The post about the Pol. Positive below reminded me of a post I saw on another forum earlier this week. It seems that SOG recently imported "a small quantity" of Colt Police Positives in .38 Colt. Blued with lanyard rings, but the finish was supposedly dicey on most of them. Looked as if they had been shot very little. I understand that they sold out very quickly. Not sure of the prices but I think they were in the $125 range. They had numbers on the butt and supposedly were imported from Argentina. Don't know if they were police or military guns. I think they were pre-war guns. They may start showing up at gunshows. Charlie

Hey DB: No, I won't be able to make it to Orlando. I am in So. FL so that is a bit of a haul for me. On Sunday, however, I will be going to a little one day VFW Hall show in Hollywood. Very small, but every now and then a nice Colt walks in the door. I am waiting for the Lakeland Pistol Club show in Sept., and then the big one: The Colt Collectors Association Show in Tampa in October. That show is going to be what the Air Force used to call a "target rich environment!" Charlie

hey O Man as you can tell by my misspelled "handle" I'm a Diamondback collector, and from Central (way below Orlando) Fl. but I've never heard of the little show in Hollywood. Question though, can you still go to the Colt Collectors Show or do you have to be a member of the Association first? I've never gotten around to joining, I guess I should.

Hey DB: The Colt Show is not members only. Admission is $10 with free admission for CCA members. Of course, if you like Colts enough to go to the Show you ought to join the CCA also. Here is a link to the CCA site which has information on the show. Maybe I'll see you there! Charlie http://www.coltcollectorsassoc.com/

Re: Police Positive Imports - Argentina

I was searching through the old posts on this list, and ran across one reference to the “Argentine Police Positive.” I picked up what I believe to be one of these revolvers a couple of years ago, but have never seen another one since. Price was $130.00.

According to the serial number this revolver was made in 1920-21, which fits in with the time frame for these Argentine issue guns. It’s my understanding that they belonged to the Policia Federal Argentina, and were likely replaced by a 9mm Browning Hi-Power in the early to mid-1930s (or possibly the Modelo 1927 .45 Colt Automatics that were built for Argentina in Hartford.)

The gun appears to have been carried a lot and shot very little, as the internal workings are very tight. (That’s oil, not corrosion, on the inside of the cylinder crane.) Some of the markings appear faint (esp. the Rampant Colt), but the gun does not appear to me to have been refinished. There is a small "P within a triangle" on the right front of the triggerguard. The gun bears the "JLD Ent. Farm. Ct." import marks. (JLD Enterprises was also the importer of all those Argentine .45 autos a few years back.) The grips are unusual and may be replacements. It shoots well, too!

See the photo links below for details.
