I recently found a police positive in 32-20 at a local shop but it is in satin nickle finish. I am assuming it was refinished at some point in its life. Looks to have original grips. My question is: did Colt ever make this revolver in satin nickle? and how difficult would it be to remove that finish and re-blue the gun without spending more than its worth assuming the finish is not correct to the gun. They want $225 for it.

Thanks much for all the help spending (or saving) my money :)

I would have to see the gun. If it was nickeled after it left the factory, how much was it buffed? I really can't answer your question, but generally, you end up spending more or almost as much as an original piece. And what do you have? A two-time refinished gun.

No, to my knowledge Satin Nickel was not a factory finish for the Police Positive.

I concur with snakeman99 and wish to add that period correct factory nickel for that era was a high polish nickel. Those satin electrolux nickel finishes would not be period correct and arrived much later in the 20th century. I'm not up on current prices for the Police Positive but if mechanics are good, I don't think $225 is a bad price. A lot depends on quality of the refinish. Pics would help.

Good advice.
