I purchased a sts python a bit ago and just got it back from Frank Glenn with a great action job. Now I would like to polish it, like the bright sts pythons. Not to sell it as a bright sts, I have no intention of it going anywhere, it is one of those forever keepers. I am sure it will destroy some of it's value, but i do not care about that at all. I have been bit with the bling bug since I sold my nickel python because I am a shooter, not a collector. Any harm in doing this besides dropping the value?

It may not matter to you but no amount of hand polishing is going to get you the bright stainless that Colt does. I don't know Colts process but boy is It slick and shinny.

As above, polishing with metal polishes will bring the gun to a good shine, but it can't being it to the mirror finish of a factory polish.
This is because the satin models still have tiny machine marks left from manufacture, and metal polishes can't remove the significant amounts of metal needed to polish out the marks.

When Colt converts a satin Python to bright polish, they use the same polishing wheels and abrasives they use to polish a factory bright polish.
In other words, they just finish the job they would have done if it was originally to be a bright polish model.

So, you can make it nice and shiny and looking similar to a factory bright polish, but close examination will show the fine machine marks and the finish will not be as mirror-like.

I have to confer with dfariswheel. But since you aren't concerned with any value drop, it will be a labor of love for you. And though you may not achieve the picture perfect finish that Colt's factory produces, you'll have the bling thing you want. Go for it and post pics when done!

Why not send it back to Colt for a factory polish? I did that with my matte stainless Delta Elite and it came out perfect including the polished bushing for the 40SW barrel/bushing. It has been a while so I think it cost me about $300.
