I just had that same problem with a Power customs bisley hammer......i called and they said i must have broke something off, i don't think it's possable to do that just by installing it? It's not safe in that condition and can accidentially discharge so be careful.

Oh, BTW when the trigger moves back to the trigger guard, the hammer does not move/close from the 1st safety/click. Does that help with additional diagnosis?
It may not be the hammer notch, the tip of the trigger may be broken off! A correct diagnosis cannot be made with out removing the the trigger and hammer and inspecting them visually!

If it turns out that the problem is the hammer, any of the top SAA specialists should be able to tig weld the hammer back to new condition, it's a common repair. No need to get a new hammer, keep the original.

Hmmmmm..........If its in the first notch, the trigger sear holds it there and the trigger should not move. If its sitting on a "shelf" in the hammer, pulling the trigger should drop the hammer a little.

You got problem, Kemo Sabe.

I sent Dave Lanara (sp?) my Bisley hammer and trigger because one of the safety notch was missing. The trigger tip was also bad. I had to send him the parts twice and even then when it came back and I installed them into my gun it took some minor fitting on my end and he talked me through it. It appears that Bisleys can be tricky as to fitting. Now I have 4 nice clicks.

Could someone post pictures of problem I should look for on the hammer or trigger when I take it apart? THANKS
These are SAA hammers & triggers, I don't have Bisley's, but the affected areas are the same. The hammer on the right is a normal one, the hammer on the left has a broken loading notch and a worn safety notch. The trigger on the right is a normal one, the two triggers on the left have the tips broken off. Click on the picture to enlarge it.

I tried to draw a arrow on the 'puter screen, but dogone it just won't stay thar! :bang_wall:Fraid I ain't got the 'puter savvy to do that kinda stuff! Howsomever, ifen you just click on thet pictur to make it bigger and then look close you can plainly see thet the little lip on the loading notch of the hammer on the left jest ain't thar! An ifn you compar the length of the top part of the triggers, it's plain to see thet the one on the right is longer then the other two!

Took Bisley apart and here are pictures. Trigger looks good. Hammer notches do not look good comparing to Swamprats pictures. Is bottom notch the safety notch? I don't know where I would ever find a good old period hammer, so do you think a good gunsmith could modify this one? I also noticed (see poor picture) that one arm of the bolt is much more worn than the other (ugg, and I just sold my last NOS bolt). What problems might this cause? THANKS
