The guy trying to sell this says the grips have a chip in the back and that is why there is a gap in the grips but it does not look like these are the correct grips for the gun. It looks like the gap between the grip frame and grip is too big and not made for this frame, what do you guys think? Not sure how much this hurts the value or what it would be worth in the condition it is in any opinions? Serial number puts it at 1982.

The best thing to do is value it as though it has Pachy's.Those stocks don't look right.Without a photo of them off the gun it's hard to tell where the problem is.JMO D*

If you mean the gap between the bottom of the steel grip frame and the wood grips, that's something you do see on many Colt Target grips, so it's not unusual, but is slightly larger then normal.

If you mean the fact that the grips aren't seated on the frame and have a gap between the wood, that's because the grips need some fine fitting to allow them to seat fully.

Those don't appear to be "replica" grips and are the correct type of Colt Target grips as used on the Python and other Colt revolvers.
